Introducing Jorge Larach

Image
Introduction     My name is Jorge Larach, I'm a senior Computer Science major with a minor in Creative Writing. I was born in Houston, and raised in Spain until I was 8. I came to Trinity mainly because it is the only university in Texas that offers a creative writing minor.  Interests     I've been writing stories since I learned English, and it's definitely my biggest passion. I got into computers when I was around 12, and took my first CS class my freshman year of high school. I love playing tennis and watching matches. I'm also really into music, with some of my favorite artists right now being LCD Soundsystem and Magdalena Bay. Professionally, I'm really into and have worked with embedded systems and robotics, as well as stuff like cellular automata and automata theory in general. Cheese keyboard Rube Goldberg winter break project from 2016 Some cool Arduino projects from high school Expectations I want to get better at using hand and power tools, as well a...

Introducing Thor Yeary

Introduction My name is Thor Yeary, I'm a senior  Environmental Studies major, with a  minor in Economics. I was born and  raised right here in San Antonio, which  is what made Trinity such an easy  choice for me! Interests I'm passionate about environmental education and wildlife conservation, which is why I currently work at Phil Hardberger Park as a field trip educator for young students. You can often find me at the park even when I'm not working, I love going on walks and bird watching on the trails. I am also a huge gamer, I spend lots of time playing tabletop games with my friends and family. It is a personal goal of mine to one day fully develop a tabletop game myself and get it published! (Pictured above: 3D printed keychain I designed for my girlfriend using Tinkercad) (Pictured above: collection of RPG miniatures I've printed for my home games with friends) Expectations I expect to leave this course having more knowledge and confidence usi...

Marco Jonsson Introduction

Image
Introduction:  Hi everyone, my name is Marco Jonsson and I am a Senior in my final semester at Trinity. I am a Physics and Computer Science double major, and have a minor in Mathematics and Music. I am from Sugar Land, southwest of Houston, and plan to return to Houston in the Fall for my career.   Interests: I grew up in a very musical family, and as a result, have played violin for over 15 years. I play in the TSO as the concertmaster, but also perform smaller gigs both for the university and outside. I love working with my hands, and despite being a very heavily theory oriented major like Physics, a significant portion of my research has been a large-scale engineering project. Pictures to come :) I currently also play on the Ultimate Frisbee Team, Trinity Turbulence!   Expectations: I am taking this class to get more experience running the 3-D printers and CNC machines, since I'd like to own one for personal projects in the years to come. I a...

Introducing Adam Edelbi

Image
Introduction       - Hey! My name is Adam Edelbi. I'm currently a freshman majoring in business, but nothing's set in stone yet. I'm originally from Canada, but I've lived here in San Antonio for most of my life. A few family friends of mine attended Trinity, and one of them is even a professor here! I've heard great things about Trinity, so I'm excited to see what the future holds. Interests      - Since I was pretty young, I've always had a bad habit of picking up new hobbies and then dropping them shortly after. Some of the random and useless skills I've picked up over the years include juggling, and dice stacking.  There are, however, a few of my favorite hobbies that I've stuck with for a while. I really love video games, tv shows, and books; they're some of the things that got me interested in drawing and art. I have a friend who's really into woodworking, and he taught me a few things about how to use the various woodworking machines ...

Introducing Katherine Behrens

Image
Introduction  Hello! My name is Katherine Behrens, but you can call me Kate. I am a psychology and political science double major. I am also a captain of the women's volleyball club here at Trinity! I was born and raised in Denton, Texas, but traveled frequently with my parents to San Antonio when I was younger and knew it would be a perfect fit for me. Just far enough from home but close enough to visit on long weekends. I'm looking forward to graduating in May where I hope to continue my academic studies in foreign relations and national security.  Trinity University Women's Club Volleyball Team Interests  I have been playing volleyball for at least ten years now. I have played throughout high school on both my school team and in club sports, and have been grateful to continue to play competitively in college club. I also love to travel! I have participated in two study abroad programs though Trinity. The first of which was the International Criminal Justice program wit...

Introducing Lizzie Edwards

Image
Introduction My name is Elizabeth Asha Edwards, but I go by Lizzie. I am graduating this spring as an Environmental Studies Major and Geoscience Minor. I am currently a fellow for the new Trinity University Environmental Partnerships for San Antonio under Dr. Hazleton. I was born and raised in San Antonio, so I have a very strong connection to the city and its culture. After graduation I hope to get a job in San Antonio where I am taking initiative in environmental stewardship, wherever that may take me. I aspire to have a job where I can work in the field, whether that is taking samples or evaluating environmental impacts on local ecosystems.  Interests Some of my favorite things to do include singing and playing piano because I love being in charge of my own music. When I was young my mom made and sold jewelry and shoes, so I have learned a lot of my bead and wire skills from her. I make a lot of my own jewelry because we have so many materials from years ago. I am also always do...

Introducing Ryan

Image
Hi, welcome to ENGR 2192 Intro to Making. I’m Ryan, the CSI MakerSpace supervisor and prototype technician. It feels like an appropriate title, as I dig creating and enjoying helping others get their make on. I crested year 7 at Trinity now and am in awe at what our maker community has grown into. What was once just a room full of old tools is now a legit modern workshop with a vibrant community. My role has evolved from acquirer and organizer of tools to empowerer of the make. Certainly a fun, cup filling type role. It makes me happy that this group has decided to give making a go. Y’all are maker class iteration 7. A lucky number if ever there was one. Great things are expected. The MakerSpace was busy last year. On top of the usual maker class, we added an advanced making class and hosted a Summer of Lathing About. Both projects focused on designing and building geared metal mechanical assemblies from scratch. A challenge that the participants proved up for. In September, I ha...

Introducing Dr. Wilson Terrell Jr. (Dr. T.)

Image
Introduction   My name is Dr. Wilson Terrell Jr., and I'm the Associate Provost - started this position in June 2022. In addition, I'm an Associate Professor of Engineering Science in the D. R. Semmes School of Science - started at Trinity in 2003. I graduated with a B.S., M.S., and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Fighting Illini - home of the best deep dish pizza Papa Dels). Interests I have always love "making" since getting my first Lego set. While in high school, my favorite classes were math, physics, and chemistry. My physics teacher encouraged me to attend a summer engineering program at the University of Illinois, which helped me to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Here at Trinity, I primarily teach upper division mechanical engineering type courses and labs, and freshmen engineering design. This is the second time I have taught this course, when it was a pilot called ENGR 2191, Special Topics ...
