Kate Behrens, Project 4: Desktop CNC
Process
This project was probably the most challenging one in fusion. It was really difficult to come up with a design that incorporated a topographical map or design. My mom constantly forgets to put her rings back on after working the in kitchen, so for my design I wanted to create a heart-shaped dish for her to store her rings. It was difficult at first to create the shape of the heart. I hadn't really worked with a shape other than a square or rectangle, but once the shape was made, I was able to use other functions that I was more familiar with. It wasn't until I had to create tool paths that it got really confusing. Special shout out to Dawson for all his help!
Results
Despite how hard and time consuming this project was, I love the result! I think the topographical design makes the bowl unique and special, as no one else will be using Denton, TX, as their reference. It turned out a little bigger than I imagined, but it still turned out great. I think these are the best results of any of my projects so far!
Reflection
I have a lot of mixed feelings with this project. The fusion position, especially making the tool patterns, was really hard. It kind of made the CNC router seem intimidating and not worth the hassle, but the results were incredible! It takes a lot of patience and trust in the process, but it was totally worth it for the end result. I absolutely love how the design turned out and hope my mom does too!

Your heart bowl looks awesome! CNC routing is by far the most challenging because it has the most options. This is scary but can allow you to do way more. Finding the flow on it really comes down to time on the machine. Practice and all that. Dawson is really good on the machine not just because he's smart but because he's programmed and run close to hundred items by now.
